Alicesoft has done it again. It has once again stunned its fans with another great hit. After the release of Oudou Yuusha, Alice yet released another great title, DiaboLiQue. Although there are some rumors about DiaboLiQue being very bloody and nasty, it seems to me that the rumors are somewhat off. I was totally absorbed by the game itself within the first few minutes of playing the game.

I have to admit, however, that the rumor does contain some truth. There are certain scenes that are bloody and nasty, but the scenes will not distaste you. Instead, these scenes enhanced the mood of the game and make the story extraordinary.

The story behind DiaboLiQue is intense yet romantic. In the world of DiaboLiQue, there are two living forms that symbolize intelligence. One is human and the other is Diabolique. Diabolique is forms that possess power, violence, intelligence, and eternal life. The life form was categorized into four levels. The lowest division of all is simply called diabolique, which lacks intelligence, no reproduction ability, and ugly. The second level of diabolique is dema diabolique, which are the usual monsters that attack villages and towns. The third level of diabolique is the 24 diabolique. And the highest of all diabolique is the Road Diabolique. It possesses intelligence, ability to change its form, human form, and power.

For thousands of years, human race has been suppressed by the danger of diabolique. Towns and villages are destroyed by mindless diabolique. Life is miserable under the threatening of diabolique. However, a legend has passed on through generation that there's one Road Diabolique that kills its own species. This diabolique was Azulite, the Dark Road Diabolique - one of the only five Road Diabolique. Being known as the "species killer," Azulite has come up to a village looking for case that human cannot solved (i.e. Diabolique killing.) At here, he met a girl named Letticia. Her innocence and tragic background has attracted Azulite, and soon Azulite fell in love with her. However, as it seems that god has put a curse on diabolique, the two lover was separated. Letticia was killed when a spear passes through her body. The two little lovers promised to see each other when she was reincarnated. Carrying with the promise, Azulite once again set off on a journey in searching for Letticia.

This game is full of details. I wanted to write more about the story, but it would certainly spoil the game for you (I might have done that already.) What I have just described is only the very beginning of the game. The game will go deeper and deeper as you play. Will the two lover eventually met? Will the tragic repeats over forever? Will this endless reincarnation continue? Questions like these will constantly popping out of your mind when play DiaboLiQue. This is probably one of the most detail and addictive stories I have ever seem. If you can handle Japanese, this will probably be one of your most memorable enjoyments.

When it comes to the graphic, there is no doubt that Alicesoft is the winner. Vivid color, beautiful backgrounds, and cute girls every time you click on the mouse. If you have been playing Alicesoft's games, you will certainly agree. However, this game does not contain a lot of H-scenes. But when comparing to some of their previous products, this game has more visual CG and better H-scenes. Although it does not serve a lot of eye-candy CG, the story is already addictive enough for you to stay with your computer until you see the credit. The H-scenes just enhance player's enjoyment on what is already a super addictive game.

The gamplay in the game is pretty simple. You will hardly die unless you really chosen the wrong command, but most of time you just have to click the right one for it to continue (or you're stuck). There is total of three ending, but they are easy to get. The game is simple and yet you will enjoy the game for days.

Unfortunately, I was unable to give comments on the music of the game (you should probably know why.) Therefore, I will give my last comments on the story. The story is very complicated. How they tell the story is kind of the Final Fantasy 7 or several animes like Nadesico or Eva. It will give you some dream or flashbacks that you have absolutely no idea until the end with an extreme close attention to the story. One note, however, is that you should have a decent Japanese skill to enjoy the game. I don't think you will have tons of fun by just clicking and watch a bunch of weird characters (letters) moving in the dialogue.

Overall, this game is very exciting to play. I give this a high rating and recommend all Japanese knowledge players to try this game. If you don't know Japanese, go take some lessons before you try this game.
