Sangokushi IX first impressions (22.214.171.124)
Just came out a few days ago. Here's a first look:
This version has one of the most dramatic change to the series since the "play as a regular general" system. First of all, that system is gone (which I thought was the single best innovation to the series). The tactical combat is also gone. That's right, the tactical combat that "got fixed" in every version is now GONE! Replaced is something like Sangokushi Battlefield, where you have armies walking around on the big map and battle automatically. There are 2 phrases, the "strategy" and the "watch the troops move" phrase. Troops can build "bases" and obstacles in the middle of the map which is a much more realistic approach to war. Half my brain is telling me without tactical combat half the fun is gone, but I haven't played enough to be conclusive. There is a tutorial to introduce you to this radically different way of playing.

Good news is that they made radical changes. Bad news is that it's so different now it's like Warcraft. That's not good to the old KOEI-interface gamers.
Oh boy...I hope you have this in the reviews database.
